First Commenwealth Games
Freeman competed in her first Commonwealth games where she won gold in the 4 x 100 metres relay team. She became the first Aboriginal sprinter to win a gold medal at the Commonwealth Games. -
First Olympics
The Barcelona Olympics was Freeman's first Olympics but she did not make the finals. -
Gold Medals
At the Commonwealth Games she won the 200 and 400 metre gold medals. -
Silver Medal
At the Atlanta Olympics, Freeman won a silver medal. -

Cathy Freeman was chosen for the Australian of the Year award. She is the first person to get both awards. -
