Still, in 1147 by the hand of D. Afonso Henriques (the first Portuguese king) and with the help of crusaders that were going to the holy-land, the castle was definitively conquered after a siege of 3 months. -

Becoming Lisbon, in 1255, the capital of the reign, the castle was converted into royal palace which lead for it to be attacked several times by the Spanish in the attempts to conquer Portugal during the 13th and 14th century. -
