-
Set up Shop!
The teacher will create a shopping center for the students to purchase items necessary for a sustainable life -
Which Day?
The teacher will assign the students a day to shop -
Keeping Track!
Students will be required to keep track of the items they purchase. They will record what they bought along with how much the item cost. -
Need or Want
While shopping, students need to keep in mind if they are purchasing items because they need to have them or simply because they want to have them. -
Justification
For all items purchased, students need to write an explanation as to why they chose to purchase that specific item. This will come in handy with evaluations! -
Spreadsheet Time!
Students must also create an excel spreadsheet for their budget. This spreadsheet will help them keep track of their income. Part of the students grade will be determined by how well the student kept up with their spreadsheet throughout the activity! -
Worksheet
Once they have completed their shopping and have a finished spreadsheet, the student will need to fill out the activity worksheet. The worksheet includes a space for budget information and justification of expenses. -
Group Time!
Now its time for peer evaluations. Students will pair up and review each others spreadsheets and classroom budget worksheet. -
Collaboration!
Once the evaluations are complete, students will discuss with one another their findings. Did your partner stay within their budget? Did they make any unnecessary purchases? Were they able to give an explanation for each purchase? -
Rubric
Students should score at least a proficient or higher on the activity. -
Done!
Students should now have an understanding about career options and managing money!
