    First Cervical Cancer Screening
    Cervical cancer testing should start at age 21 (no younger). If the pap test comes back normal your doctor may tell you, you can wait 3 years until your next pap. There are two types the first a pap test and the second a HPV test. For both the nurse collects cells from the surface of the cervix. The pap test the lab checks the sample for cancer cells or abnormal cells. Women between the ages of 21-29 should not have an HPV test done unless its needed after abnormal pap test results.

    There is no set start time to get checked for skin cancers, but is important to be aware of your body and its normal patterns of moles, freckles, and blemishes. Doctors may advise regular skin exams. It is advised your check your own skin at least once a month for any abnormalities.

    Women ages 40-44 should have the choice to start annual mammogram screening for breast cancer. A mammogram is an x-ray of the breast, and are used to check for breast cancer in women who don't show any signs or symptoms of the disease. Mammograms usually involve two or more x-ray pictures of each breast. The images often make it possible to detect tumors that can't be felt.

    During a colonoscopy, a long, flexible tube is inserted into the rectum. A tiny video camera at the tip of the tube allows the doctor to view the inside of the entire colon. By doing this doctors can look for polyps in the large intestine which are abnormal growths that could be cancer. If you are 50 years or older and at the average risk of colon cancer your doctor may recommend a colonoscopy every 10 years or sooner to screen for colon cancer.
  • Endometrial Cancer Concerns

    All women at the time of menopause should be told about the risks and symptoms of endometrial cancer. Endometrial cancer starts in the uterus in the layer of cells that forms the uterus. This type of cancer produces abnormal vaginal bleeding. If you have any signs or symptoms it is best to contact your doctor.
  • Mammogram

    Once a women reaches the age of 55 annual mammograms can be done every two years
  • Pap Test & HPV Test

    Women between the ages of 30-65 should have a pap test and an HPV test done every 5 years.
  • Stop Cervical Cancer Testing

    Women over the age of 65 who have had regular cervical cancer testing in the past 10 years with normal results should not be tested for cervical cancer. Once testing has stopped it should not be started again.
