  • Cervical Cancer Screening

    Cervical Cancer Screening
Starting at age 21 it is recommended that women start screening for cervical cancer. From 21-29 screenings will be needed every 3 years. In order to screen a pap test will be done. A medical professional will collect cells from the cervix and send them to the lab. If an abnormal pap test comes back then HPV screenings may need to take place. After the age of 65 screenings are not necessary unless cancer was a concern in the past.
  • Skin Cancer

    Skin Cancer
Being aware of changes and growths on the skin is important at all times and at all ages. Having a skin check at yearly physicals is very important. Adults should fully examine their body and skin every 3 months at least and doctors should examine once a year. Report any changes to the doctor as soon as possible
  • Mammogram Screening

    Mammogram Screening
Screening for breast cancer is done using a mammogram. It is recommended that women start screenings between 40-42. I plan to get my first mammogram at the age of 40 because I have a family history of breast cancer. Mammograms are an image of your breast taken with an x-ray machine. Your breast will be placed on a table and then compression will be applied in order to spread the tissue and view it fully. Ages 45-54 mammogram every year. 55 and older every two years.
  • Colon/Rectal Cancer Screening (Colonoscopy)

    Colon/Rectal Cancer Screening (Colonoscopy)
Colon/Rectal cancer screenings will start at age 50 for me because I do not have a history of it in my family. In order to screen for colon/rectal cancer, a colonoscopy needs to be performed to look for polpys or any other signs of cancer.
  • Ovarian Cancer Screening

    Ovarian Cancer Screening
Ovarian cancer tests can be done at the time of a cervical exam or pap test. It is a simple blood test or just an ultrasound that is performed.Ovarian cancer is not usually common in women younger than 55 but if there is a family history it may be possible.
