Canada signed the ICCPR and ICESCR treaty
International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights was signed by the U.N.. It talks about the rights of individuals including "The Right to Life, Freedom of Religion, Freedom of Speech, Assembly, and various rights associated with fair trials." It's part of the International Bills of Human Rights. It was signed on March 23, 1976.

Canada joins the CEDAW
CEDAW is the Convention on the Elimination of All Forms Discrimination Against Women which enabled significant advancements in women's human rights globally and gender equality. Canada joined and signed on July 17th, 1980 but was made on December 18th, 1979. -

Canada had an important part in the establishing of the International Criminal Court. This court deals with international cases such as genocide, war crimes, and other crimes against humanity. Canada worked with other countries to help make this court a reality. -
Canadian forces to Afghanistan
Hundreds of men and women in the Canadian forces fought in Afghanistan to help the people there whose human rights were being violated. -
U.N. Misson in Sudan- UNMIS
To work with other countries in the U.N. to help supper the peace agreement of the African Mission in Sudan. This included the protection and promotion of human rights. Canada was involved in a number of other peace keeping missions as well. -
