The Winnipeg general strike happened, because many people believed that they should be earning more money and also the workers had no insurance, pensions, or compensation for injuries. This event is significant, because it led to the recognition of economic problems in Canada, and the strike also caused many people to lose their jobs. -
Canada and the League of Nations
The League of Nations was a intergovernmental founded as a result of the Paris Peace Conference. It is significant, because it was a very important piece in building Canada's autonomy. -
Prohibition
Made drinking alcohol illegal in Canada. It was significant, because it showed the government by banning something it would make it more desirable to have, which made way more dangerous and poisonous. -
Indian Act Amended
This act gave the rights to the First Nations people to be allowed to vote. This is significant, because without this many First Nations people wouldn't be allowed to have the rights to the reserves and land. -
Federal Election
This event is the first time that a women was voted into parliament. This event is significant, because many women were discriminated to not being as strong or smart as a man but when voted many men changed their perspectives about women. -
Insulin
Fredrick Banting (right in the photo) and Charles Best did their first treatment on a human using insulin and it worked fantastically. This is significant, because insulin has helped many people that have diabetes by helping their blood sugar stay a recommended amount. -
Chinese Exclusion Act
Banned all Chinese form Canada. It was significant, because it left many Chinese people lost since they would have to go back were they came from and left most of them broke, because they had lost their jobs. -
Person's Case
The person's case was fought by 5 women from Alberta that wanted the same rights as men. It significant, because after this event women had the same rights as men and earned the rights to be called "persons." -
Black Tuesday
This is when the stock market crashed and many people lost money. This is significant, because people refer to Black Tuesday and the beginning of the Great Depression. -
5 Cent Speech
Mackenzie King gave a speech to the citizens about the stock market crash. It is significant, because many people were frustrated by the way he was handling the depression, which led to many different opinions on the Prime Minister, and why he wasn't re-elected. -
Statute of Westminister
The Statue of Westminster was a law made by Britain which meant that the Canadian government had its own freedom and Britain would be represented by the governor general. This is significant, because it was the first time that Canada had its own freedom in government. -
Trans-Canada Airlines Created
It was the start of Air Canada. It is significant, because Air Canada is one of the more known airplane companies around the world and is big for the economy of Canada today.
