St. James
In 44 AD, St. James was beheaded by King Herod Agrippa after he returned to Jerusalem. After his execution, he became one of the first Christian martyrs. -

Almanzor
In 981 through 1002, the Moorish Vizer conducted periodic campaigns, in which he raided and razed León, Santiago, and other cities. In these campaigns, the Christians were forced back into the mountains. -
Dismantling of Santiago
The Almanzor destroyed the city of Santiago in 997. He had Christians captured, and forced them to carry the bells of the cathedrals to Córoba. They remained in Córoba in 1236. -
