World War II against Japan
Japan overthrew the French rule in Indochina. The French colonial relieved of there positions, and the French military was ordered to be disarmed.

Cambodia’s Independence
IN 1946 Cambodia was granted self-rule within the French Union. Cambodia officially gained independence from France in 1953.

King Sihanouk
In1955 King Sihanouk abdicated in favor of his father, Norodom Suramarit. He was King of Cambodia from 1955 until his death in 1960.

Severing Ties with Vietnam
In 1963 Cambodia severed its ties with South Vietnam. Cambodia broke diplomatic relations with Vietnam. Cambodia Accused them of being “Ferocious, and barbaric”

General Lon Nol
In 1970 General Lon Nol conspired against Sihanouk’s as a protests to the presence of the Viet Congress forces in Cambodia. While Sihanouk was abroad Lon Nol and Prince Siri’s Matak led a coup and succeeded in overthrowing him.

Lon Nol Overthrown
In L1975 Lon Nol was overthrown by Communist Khmer Rouge Regime. All people who lived in that city where forcefully moved to the country side to become agricultural worker.

The Country is renamed
In 1976 the country is renamed democratic Kampuchea. Sihanouk resigns from head of the state, and Khieu Samphan becalmed ahead of the state. Also Pol Pot is now Prime Minister.

Fighting with Vietnam
In 1977 Cambodia statrted fighting with Vietnam. Cambodia and Vietnam Fought because Cambodia broke relations with the Socialist Republic Of Vietnam.

Cambodian- Vietnamese War
In 1979 Vietnamese Troops captured Phanom Penh establishing the people’s Republic of Kampuchea. The rule of the Khmer Rouge was eventually over.

Vietnamese Troops
In 1989 the last Vietnamese troops withdrew from Cambodia. Hun Sen tried to attract foreign investments by abandoning Socialism. Eventually the country was re-named the state of Cambodia. Then Buddhism was re-established as there state religion.

Monitoring Cambodia
In 1992 the United Nations peacekeeping force began monitoring Cambodia.

Elections
In may 1993 Cambodia held free elections. Norodom Ranariddh was elected prime minister, Hun Sen as deputy prime minister. Sihanouk becomes the king again, the country is re-named the Kingdom of Cambodia.

Overthrow of the Prime Minister
In 1997 Hun Sen overthrows the prime minister, and replaces him with Ung Huot. The Kehmr Rouge put Pol Pot on trial and sentenced him to life imprisonment.

Death of Pol Pot
In 1998 Pol Pot dies in his jungle hideout. Pol Pot was one of Cambodia’s most Brutal regimes. He died of heart failure.

Hun Sen re-elected
In 2004 Prime minister Hun Sen is re-elected. After the Prime minister is re-elected parliament ratifies there kingdom into world trade organization.

In 2005 Opposition leader Sam Rainsy goes abroad after parliament releases him from Prosecution. Which has left him with defamation charges brought by ruling coalition.

In November of 2006 a junior partner on ruling coalition, kicks Prince Norodom Ranariddh from the leading position.

Ta Mok Dies
In 2006 Ta Mok one of the top leaders of Khmer Rouge Regime, dies at age 80. Ta Mok dies from heart complications, caused by stress.

Former king of Cambodia dies
In 2012 the former king of Cambodia Norodom Sihanouk dies in Beijing at the age of 89 years old. He died from a heart attack.
