Emperor Constantine I Founded The Byzantine Capital
Constantine became emperor after a civil war. After he became emperor he dictated a " New Rome". He then renamed the Capital Constantinople. Constantinople legalized Christianity and allowed for freedom of worship within the emperor. Constantine defeated Licinius and reunited both sides of the emperor. After this vicorty is when he renamed the capital. -

Nika Revolt
Constantinople is severely damaged by rioting. There are a lot a reasons this riot happened. Some of them are Justinians support of the blues, (Justinian was the emperor at the time), a mess in the public order and justice systems, and heavy taxation due to all the defeats. There was also a increasing power of women in political issues. -

Hagia Sophia
The Hagia Sohia is a domed monument that is a cathedral in Constantinople. It is one of the most important Byzantine structure and one of the worlds greatest monuments. It was built in 6 years. The reason it was built was because the church before it was burnt down more than once so it gave the emperor Justin an opportunity to create something great. -

General Belisarius military campaigns
General Belisarius led his army to victory. This proved to Justinian that he was a great general. This big victory is over Persia. Justinian used general Belisarius for many of his other battles need to be fought. -

Fall of Constantinople to the Ottoman Turks
This is considered the end of the Byzantine empire. Sultan Mehmed led the assault on the capital. He was the ruler of the ottoman Turks. The Turks renamed the capital to Istanbul. Which is the name of it still to this day. -
Emperor Alexios I contacts Pope Urban II for military help in the Middle East
Alexios writes a letter to the pop asking for military help. He needs this help to battle the Muslim Turks. The pope agrees to send military help, and they battle the Turks.
