White Laborers demanded higher pay and threatened to strike. Charles Crocker ordered Cantral Pacific to recruit Chinese workers. -
Winter
A gang of Chinamen emplyed by the railroad were covered up and killed by a snow slide. This was during the "Homeric" winter of 1866- 1867. -
Bankruptcy
The central pacific railroad tottered on the brink of bankruptcy and could not pay their workers. There were 2000 Chinamen that walked off the job. -
Burlingame Treaty
The U.S. Government and China signed the Burlingame Treaty.- That either nation would be open to unlimited immigration from the other
- That citizens of one nation would be able to travel, study and reside freely in the other nation
- That the United States would not interfere with internal Chinese affairs.

The Central Pacific and Union Pacific competed to see who could throw down track the fastest. The winner was the Central Pacific, they laid down 10 miles of track in one day. -
