Lynx

1992

Lynx is the first ever browser, it did not have a graphical user interface and was only text based.

Mosaic

1993

A much more popular browser "Mosaic" is released and overtakes lynx in popularity. It has the amazing feature where you can embed IMAGES. (very wow, such amaze.)

Netscape Navigator

1994

Mosaic is overtaken in popularity by netscape's alternative.

Internet Explorer

1995

Microsoft enters the competition by releasing their windows 95 that comes with internet explorer installed, as a result internet explorer rises very quickly in popularity.

Opera

1996

Opera enters the competition but failed to reach the popularity of Navigator and Explorer.

Safari

2003

Much later, Apple releases safari and comes close to overtaking internet explorer.

Firefox

2004

Mozilla firefox is released which gained quite a lot of popularity and is still a preferred option today by many people.

Chrome

2008

Google Chrome is released and quickly overtook explorer and firefox, chrome is still the most popular browser today.

Edge

2015

Microsoft attempt to reclaim the top slot with Microsoft edge but did not succeed because everyone was happy with chrome.
