Joseph Elopes to Emma Smith
On January 18, 1827, Smith and Emma “eloped to marry.” -
Recieves gold Plates
Smith made his last annual visit to the hill, taking Emma with him. This time, he said, he retrieved the plates and placed them in a locked chest. He said the angel commanded him not to show the plates to anyone else but to publish their translation. Joseph later told Emma’s parents that his treasure-seeking days were behind him. -
Martin Harris Loses Translation
After much pestering, Joseph allows Martin to take the manuscript home to show his wife. The manuscript disappears from a locked desk. Many believe that it was stolen by anti-Mormons to see if a new translation matched the stolen version. That portion of the Book of Mormon was never re-translated. -
John the Baptist & Aaronic Priesthood
John the Baptist restored the Aaronic Priesthood to Joseph Smith and Oliver Cowdery on May 15, 1829, saying, “Upon you my fellow servants, in the name of Messiah, I confer the Priesthood of Aaron.” -
