Censorship of Literature

Restoration of the Monarchy under King Charles II
The English, Irish, and Scottish Monarchys were restored under Charles II. This happened after the Interregnum (period of parliamentary and military rule by the Lord Protector Oliver Cromwell under the Commonwealth of England after the English Civil War. It began with the overthrow, and execution, of Charles I in January 1649, and ended with the restoration of Charles II on May 29, 1660) that followed the Wars of The Three Kingdoms. -
The Great Plague
The Great Plague killed an estimated 100,000 people, about 20% of London's population. It was the last occurance of bubonic plague epidemics. This plague was basically caused by fleas. It lasted through 1665. -
The Great Fire of London
From Sunday, 2 September to Wednesday, 5 September 1666, flames consumed the city of London. The fire did not reach the aristocratic district of Westminster, Charles II's Palace of Whitehall, and most of the suburban slums. It consumed 13,200 houses, 87 parish churches, St. Paul's Cathedral and most of the buildings of the City authorities. It destroyed many buildings and homes, but the death toll is thought to have been very low.
