On the 3rd April 2010, the first tablet from Apple, the iPad, was released. Since it's release date, until October 2013, Apple has sold over 170 million copies of the iPad. -

On the 10th September 2010, the first Samsung Galaxy Tab was introduced. Afterwards, many more models have been released with 7.7, 8.9 and 10.1-inch displays. -

Apple sent out invitations to journalists notifying them of the upcoming media event being held at the Yerba Buena Center for the Arts on the 2nd March. -
Announcement of the iPad 2
During the media event in Yerba Buena Center for the Arts, CEO Steve Jobs, who was supposedly on medical leave, unveiled multiple devices, one of which being the iPad 2. -

Apple Inc released the iPad 2 in the US as well as online. It sold out in mere hours in stores and caused the online shippping delays to increase to three to four weeks on Sunday and four to five weeks by Tuesday. It was released on different dates in different countries. -

On the 7th March 2012, CEO Tim Cook introduced the iPad 3 along with other products. Here, he claimed that this product would be a major contributor to the time where digital life would not be tied only to the PC. -

On 16th October 2012, Apple Inc announced a media event being held at the California Theatre in San Jose, California. Though they had not disclosed what would have been discussed, many had expected the iPad Mini. -
Announcement of the iPad Mini and iPad 4
On October 23 2012, the iPad Mini was announced at the media event held at the California Theatre. The CEO, Tim Cook, introduced other products such as the iMac before finally disclosing the iPad Mini. The iPad 4 was also unveilved during the same event. -
Release of the iPad 4
It was announced that the iPad 4 was to be available in online stores on the 26th October 2012. This caused the discontinuation of the previous generation of iPad, which angered many of it's users. Apple Inc then extended the 14 day return policy to 30 days. -

The iPad Mini was released for purchase on the 2nd November. The iPad Mini has similar hardware in comparison to the iPad 2. They have the same resolution but because the iPad Mini has a smaller screen, thus the dpi is higher. It also features a smaller version of the Smart Cover made for the iPad as well as the use of the lightning connector. -

The iPad Mini 2, as well as the iPad Air, was announced on 22nd October 2013 at the Yerba Buena Center for the Arts. -

The iPad Air was released for purchase on the 1st November 2013. It featured a thinner body as well as the 64-bit Apple A7, similar to the iPad Mini. -
Release of the iPad Mini 2
Apple Inc decided to quietly release the iPad Mini 2. It was very similar to the first generation iPad Mini but with some internal changes as well as the use of a retina display.
