Spina Bifida

Neural Tube Defect

Anencephaly
Anencephaly can develop around the 17-18th week so a screening should be done. -
18 Weeks
After 18 weeks most mothers will become aware of the fetus’ movements for the first time. -
18-19 Weeks
After 18-19 weeks some fetus’ begin to open their eyes. -

After 23-24 weeks the fetus’ eyes are fully formed even though it is too dark for the fetus to see -

After 25 weeks the fetus grows eyelashes but will not get an eye color until it is out of the womb. -
26 Weeks (HIGH RISK FOR BRAIN DAMAGE)
There is a high risk for brain damage when the baby is born before 26 weeks. -

The first sounds the fetus hears are the gurgles and mumbles made by the mothers body. -

The fetus spends 90% of the time in the womb sleep and the other 10% awake. -
27-29 Weeks
After 27-29 weeks the last of the major organs to form, the lungs, form because the fetus does not use them in the womb. -

The fetus will turn upside in womb which is the way it will come out. -

The fetus has been known to have REM sleep which means that it could be dreaming -

Any time after 35 weeks the fetus can normally survive without any extra medical help -

40 Weeks
