Parliament enacts the Townshend Acts.
The Townshend Acts were a series of laws passed by the British government on the American colonies in 1767. They placed new taxes and took away some freedoms from the colonists including the following: New taxes on imports of paper, paint, lead, glass, and tea. -
The Boston Massacre
A deadly riot that occurred on March 5, 1770, on King Street in Boston. It began as a street brawl between American colonists and a lone British soldier. -
Parliament passes the Tea Act.
The final straw in a series of unpopular policies and taxes imposed by Britain on her American colonies. -
The Dartmouth arrives.
The Dartmouth arrives in the Boston harbor with the first shipment of tea. -
Last stand for action ( Morning)
Bostonians make a last attempt to try and convince Governor Hutchinson to send the tea shipment back, but their efforts are futile. Samuel Adams declares "This meeting can do nothing more to save this country" -
The Boston Tea Party (evening)
Between 6 p.m and 9 p.m. a group of men dressed as Mohawk Indians throw 342 chests of tea overboard into the Boston harbor; the approximate cost of the tea was £10,000.
