Founding of Black Panthers
The Balck Panthers was formed because its leaders thought that MLK Jr. had failed in his nonviolent campaign. The Black Panthers was founded to be publically violent and take a violent stand against the whites. To them, violence seemed like the most effective way to get what they wanted and the foundeders called for a revolutionary war. The founders have a long history of arrests which made them viable candidates to lead this violent group.

J. Edgar Hoover leads FBI investigation into Black Panther activities

J. Edgar Hoover issues an FBI investigation on the Black Panther Party. Eventually the FBI agents are discovered and investigations on Black Panthers Activites cease. -
Fights Police Brutality

If the police were going to be violent then the panthers were going to strike back with force and use tactics of self defense. They followed earlier teachings of Malcom X and not MLK Jr. Many times the Panthers came into armed confrontations with the police and the leaders were jailed and Huey Newton was put on trial for man slaughter. -
Huey Newton's Manslaughter Trial
Resource - Huey Newton was convicted of killing police officer John Frey. Convicted of 2nd degree murder an 15 years in jail. - Only serving 22 due to a persacution error in the trial. - Convicted by unfair jury. -
Free Breakfast for Children Initiatied

-The free breakfast club was created to provide black children with breakfast that provides enough nutrients for the day. It was created because the Black Panthers believed that the government was evil and not providing enough for everyone. The Black Panthers belived that if the children coud eat breakfast everyday then there academic skills would also go up. -
Major Accomplishments of Black Panthers

Major Problems Still Adressed Today

- The number one problem today is still racism and prejudice. Whether it be direct or ingocnito, it is still pertentant.
- Second major problem faced is the lack of oppurtunities. Education, Careers. Being held up to a higher standard. Dropping out of high school.
- Hidden Bias.
- Programs like NAACP still around and helping fix this.
