  • Starting the movement

    The Black Lives Matter hashtag started when George Zimmerman was acquitted in the shooting of 17 year old Trayvon Martin.The Founders of the movement were Alicia Garza, Patrisse Cullors and Opal Tometi.

  • Eric Garner

    Eric Garner was a 43 year old man that was trying to be arrested for selling loose cigarettes. Attempting to arrested him the officer put him in a choke hold. Garner repeated multiple times "I can't breathe" but the officer didn't let go which caused Garner to pass away.

  • Michael Brown

    Michael Brown was 18 years old when he was Fatally shot by officer Darren Wilson after he kept saying "Hands up Don't Shoot"

  • Tamir Rice

    Tamir Rice was a 12 year old boy that was fatally shot and killed by police in Cleveland after they received a call saying someone had a gun.

  • Charleston

    Dylan Roof entered a Charleston church service and killed 9 people and wanted to start a "race war"

  • Sandra Bland

    Sandra Bland was a 28 year old women that was pulled over for not signaling a lane change, and was arrested for it so she filmed it, then days later was found dead in her cell.
