    First bilingual-bicultural education program at the federal level. Encourage bilingualism as a way to better learn English.
  • Proposition 227 (California)

    English for the Children Initiative. Eliminated bilingual education.
  • No Child Left Behind Act

    Emphasis put on knowing and using English. Does not encourage bilingual education.
