Earliest Bike
The earliest bicycle sketches were found during the 1960's restoration of the Leonardo da Vincis "Codex Atlanticus". The sketch was not Leonardos but his students, Gian Giacomo Caprotti. It didn't have a brake system or pedals. -
Carriage
German inventor Johann Hautsch created an automated carriage that could transport one passenger over 500m with the use of the complicated mechanical drive. His device reminded more of a motorcar than a bicycle but did help future designs of the bicycle -
Tricylce
German inventor Stephan Farffler created a first known tricycle. This model did not feature pedals, but it was propelled with the use of hand crank. -
First Properly Functioning Bicycle
Baron Karl von Drais invented the precursor of the current bicycle. It was the first successful human-powered, two-wheeled, steerable transport machine. It closely resembles the modern bicycle but does have a slight variation with the postition of the chain.
