    The War is almost over. This is the beginning of the Berlin Wall.
  • The Germans Surrender

    This is a huge part of the war.
  • The Different Sides get separate currencies

    This is important because it symbolizes again that these two sides are separated an controlled by different cultures.
  • Germany is Split

    The Federal Republic of Germany is born.This is West Germany. The capitol is Bonn.
  • East Germany is created

    The Eastern Soviet side is called German Democratic Republic. The capitol is the eastern side of Berlin.
  • Workers go on strike

    Workers on East Germany go on strike for better working conditions and living conditions. Soviet Forces help GDR crush the revolt.
  • Allies proclaim Germany a sovereign state

    This officially ends the occupation.
  • New Leader

    Walter Ulbricht becomes the new leader of the GDR.
  • The Building Starts

    To stop the people from leaving the GDR soilders begin stringing barbed wire.
  • A second Wall is Built

    This is important because it was harder for them to get to the other side.

    He makes this speech in front of the Schoneberg City Hall on the western side of the city.

    This is important because he is such a big peace leader.
  • Ronald Regan visits Berlin

    This was his first time visiting Berlin.
  • Bomb Explosion

    This explosion Kills three people and injures 230 more. This explosion happens in Berlin.
  • Ronald Regan makes a speech

    In this speech he quotes, "Mr Gorbachev tear down this wall!"

    This is important because the US is taking action about Berlin.
  • Hungary is in the process of opening its border with Austria

    Over 700 GDR refugees cross the border at Sopron (Hungarian-Austrian Border).
  • East German Government has increased pressure to reform

    On October 4th there are mass anti government demonstrations in Dresden, Leipzig, and East Berlin.
