    May 1945 the Red Army captures Berlin and the city it divides it into a Soviet sector in the East.

    On May 12,1949 the federal republic of Germany. the west section was founded.

    Soviet sector in the east, and US, British and French sectors in the west.Soviet forces in West Berlin, the island in communist-controlled East Germany. This happens in a years time.
  • East Germany is founded

    On May 24, 1949 the east part of Germany was founded and it is known as the German Democratic Republic.
  • Workers Riot

    The building workers that were working for both sides in East Berlin and they riot over working conditions and the treatment. Then the Red Army has to step in to suppress the protests.
  • Making of the Berlin Wall and why...

    On the 13th of August or the night of, the Berlin wall was in the making. This wall served as a barrier and a divider of Europe.
  • Border is officially closed

    August the 13 of 1961 is the first official day that the border of the West and the East is closed and the solders start to build the wall
  • The Wall's destruction

    The wall starts as barbed wire and light fencing but over the years it builds up over the years into a complex series of walls. And the wall becomes more secured as gun positions and watchtowers are heavily guarded and patrolled. More than 200 people die in the years that followed trying to cross the wall.

    "Ich bin ein Berliner" is what John F. Kennedy said when he was at the Berlin Wall. He declared that he was a Berliner and vows to protect the people of West Berlin.
  • Formal ties

    East and West Germany establish formal diplomatic ties.This is very important because the West and East now have some form of agreement but we know that this did not change much.
  • Ronald Reagan visits

    In 1987 President Ronald Reagan visits Berlin. He was very concerned for all people and he urges the Soviet leader Mikhail Gorbachev to tear down the wall.
  • Hungarian opens its border

    Thousands of East Germans leave, making their way to West Germany. The Hungarian Government opens its border with Austria this makes it much easier when they open
  • Pro democrasy

    A million people attend a pro-democracy demonstration in East Berlin's main square. Within days, the East German Government resigns.
