Berlin is divided into 4 sections. They were American. British, French, and Soviet. -
Guarded
The line between West and East Germany is safeguarded. -
Currency
The 2 sections are in 2 different currency zones. -
Berlin Blockade
The Soviet Union begins the Berlin Blockade. -
US Supplies Food
The United States begins supplying Berlin with food and fuel. -
End of Blockade
The Soviet stops with the blockade. -
Riot
People are rioting because of poor work conditions. -
The building of the Berlin Wall
They built the wall to separate Democratic (West) and Communist (East) Berlin. -
Highest Yearly Death toll
The year where the most people dies was 1962 and 22 people died. -
Second Wall
They are building a second wall to prevent escapes to the West. -
JFK Visits The Wall
JFK visits the wall and declares hes a Berliner and says he will protect the people on the West. -
Allowed to Visit Other Sides
An administrative is signed allowing West Berliners to their relatives on the East side on a limited basis. -
Formal Ties
East and West Germany establish formal diplomatic ties. -
Reagan Visits the Wall
When President Reagan visits the wall he tries to urge Mikhail Gorbachev to tear it down. -
Last Death
Chris Gueffroy is the last person to die trying to cross the Wall. -
Hungary Opens its wall
The Hungarian Government opens its borders with Austria and alot of Germans left. -
German Government Resigns.
About 1 million people attend a pro- democracy in East Berlins main square, a few days later the Germany Government resigns. -
Visits allowed
East Germany announces that visits are allowed, people begin tearing down the wall. -
A Gate is Open.
The Brandenburg Gate is opened. -
Reunited
Germany is formally reunited.
