In West Berlin soviets force a blockade. Therefore, allies provide airlift for West Berlin. -

On May 12 West Germany is founded. Then, shortly after East Germany is founded on May 24. -

In Washington, Canada, United States, and Western European countries sign the NATO or North Atlantic Treaty Organization. The United States, Canada and Western European countries sign the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) in Washington. -
Airlift Ends
The Berlin Airlift comes to an end. -
Workers Rioting
Due to working conditions in East Berlin workers riot, causing Red Army to suppress the protests. -
Prison Time
People can be prosecuted with up to three years in prison who leave East Germany without permission. -
Border Closed
Soldiers began to build Berlin Wall, so border between West and East Berlin are closed. There are many guards watching over and guarding wall. Hundreds of people die from trying to get over wall over the years. -
Crossing Points Closed
Sadly, all of West Berliners crossing points are closed. -
Kennedy Visits Berlin Wall
President Kennedy visits the Berlin Wall and decides to become a Berliner. He promises to protect the people of West Berlin. -
First Citizen
For the first time in about two years a West Berliner may visit East Berlin. -
Martin Luther King Jr. Visits Wall
While Martin Luther King Jr. visits East and West Berlin he crosses the Berlin wall. For ID he uses his American Express card. -
Four Powers Agreement
Visiting has become easier for West Berliners because of the Four Powers Agreement over Berlin. -
Diplomatic Ties
In 1973 West and East Germany create diplomatic ties. -
Bomb Explosion
A terrorist blast kills three people and injures 230 people at the La Belle, which is a Berlin disco. Libya was later blamed for the bombing. -
President Reagan Visits
When President Reagan visits Berlin he is unpleased and requests that the wall be torn town to Soviet leader Mikhail Gorbachev. -
Germans Leave!
May through September many thousands of Germans leave and head to West Germany. Since, the Hungarian Government decides to open is border along side Austria. -
East German Government Resigns
Days after a pro-democracy demonstration is held in East Berlin's main square, attracting a million people East German Government resigns. -
Breach! Breach! Breach!
East Germany has had it with the Berlin Wall. Therefore, thousands of protesters demand to get let through, and eventually guards stand back and wall is breached. People pulled down the wall in celebration. -
Finally Reunited
After a long period of time West and East Germany are properly joined together, or reunited.
