Blockade
On June 11th, the Soviets blocked railroad acess from the western zones to Berlin. West Berlin begins a blockade of the city. -
Crash
On July 9th the first fatal crash took place of the Berlin Airlift. Three people died after the crash. About ten days after this another crash took place and killed two people. -
Airlift
The Berlin Airlift begins. Eighty tons of cargo is delivered on the first day. Also, the first coal shippment arrived a couple days after. -
Genral Tunner
On July 27th General Tunner is named an operational head of the American airlift. He arrives in Berlin a couple days later stating how he wants the airlift to have a "beat" or "rhythm". -
Cargo
On August 26th the US planes have now delivered about 10,000 tons of cargo/supplies. -
UNSC
On October 4th, The United Nations Security Council takes up the issue of the blockade. -
Government
On November 30th the Soviets set up their own Berlin City government. -
Block movement
In August of 1961 the Soviets and German Democratic Republic block movement into the west to create destruction. -
Clay
Clay returns to Berlin and makes his final appearance there before a crowd of 750,000. -
Berlin Wall comes down
On November 9, after large public demonstrations, the Berlin Wall comes down.
