  • Sedan defeat

    Napoleon III was defeated by prussian army and France lost Alsace and Lorraine. The defeat became a longing for revenge
  • Balkans tensions

    Bosnia, Herzegovina and Bulgaria (joined by Serbia and Montenegro) revolted in order to gain their independence from Ottoman Empire. Defeated by Turkish, Russia intervened pretending to support the rebels; instead Russia wanted to extend her influence over Balkans. Turkish were defeated and signed S. Stefano Treaty 1878 that provided for the creation of the State of Bulgaria (subjectedn to Russia). The conflict between Russia, Austria and GB was solved by Berlin Congress. see the map

    Balkans wars

    Two balkans war. Serbia wanted to lead the unification of the slavic states ruled by Austrian-Hungarian empire. Serbia formed an alliance with Montenegro, Grece and Bulgaria. First etnic cleaning of the story (in Kosovo) by serbians.
    In the second balkan war (1913) Bulgaria, worried by Serbia's expansionism, attacked Serbia but was defeatedand lost Salonicco (to Grece) and Macedonia (to Serbia).
