  • The Industrial Revolution begins

    Manufacturing of all kinds increased on a huge scale. Previous to the Industrial Revolution manufacturing occured in people’s homes. Factories began to be built on a massive scale. Coal was key in the Industrial Revolution, steam power was because of coal and the steam power was what factories relied on to run during this time.
  • The French Revolution begins

    The French revolution began due to the assassination of the King of France. The people of France were unhappy with the political system at the time and changed that in a violent manner.
  • California Gold Rush began

    The California Gold Rush began when James Wilson Marshall found gold in an American river while he was working on John Sutter’s mill. James told John of his discovery and even though the pair tried to keep it to themselves, word got out. As more people found out about the gold many, many thousands of people moved to California from across the globe. They were all hoping that they would strike big in the Gold Rush.
  • The American Civil War

    The American Civil War was a war fought between the Northern and Southern States. The North and South states had been in conflict for over 20 years previous to the war. It was about who should control America as a whole. In the end the North won due to the other party’s surrender.
  • The First Telephone

    Many people credit Alexander Graham Bell with the invention of the first telephone, however this is not the case. Antonio Meucci is actually the inventor of the telephone but Bell was the first to patent the invention.
  • The Birth Franklin D. Roosevelt

    Franklin D. Roosevelt was the 32nd president of the U.S.A.. He was president in the depth of the Great Depression. Roosevelt gave hope to many American citizens with his promises. Later on in life he developed poliomyelitis.
  • The Birth of Adolf Hitler

    Adolf Hitler was born to Alois Hitler and his wife Klara. He was born in the Austrian town of Braunau.
  • The Titanic Sunk

    The Titanic was deemed ‘unsinkable’, but as it turned out, this was far from the case. The Titanic would likely have survived a head on collision, however, the ship was sideswiped by the iceberg that caused the shipwreck. When the Titanic sunk over 1,500 lives were lost.
  • World War 1 begins

    The direct cause of WWI was Archduke Franz Ferdinand being shot/assassinated at Sarajevo on 28 June 1914. However historians believe that numerous additional factors resulted in the Great powers having such a huge war.
  • World War 1 ends

    WW1 ended because Germany realised that it was impossible for them to win the war so they signed an agreement for peace(an armistice). This was essentially Germany surrendering to Britain and France. The war ended on the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month.
