Founded by Robert Sturgeon
After driving himself, Sturgeon bought a small Granger-based trucking company and named it Sturgeon Truck Lines, Inc. It consisted of thirteen trucks, hauling piggy-back freight from Iowa to rail yards in Omaha and Kansas City. -
Formation of Barr-Nunn
Sturgeon purchased a trucking business located in Oak Park, IL, which provided the license to haul freight throughout United States (48 State General Commodity Authority), greatly expanding the market. He used the new company name, Barr-Nunn, as well. After 3 years in business the company has 97 drivers, 25 office employees, 85 tractors, 152 trailers, and experienced $9.7 million in sales. -
First load to the East Coast
Barr-Nunn hauled it's first load of freight to the east coast for Strayer Seed Company. The same year the fleet is also updated with 15 new '85 Kenworths, and a month later 15 new '86 Kenworths. -
Expansion of Barr-Nunn
After two companies officially merged and continue to operate under the Barr-Nunn name, employees have grown to 112 drivers, 38 full-time and 15 part-time office and shop employees. Annual revenue is 12 million. -
Granger, IA Maintenance Facility Built
A 20,000 sq ft maintenance and orientation facility in Iowa was built in 1994 and houses several maintenance bays, a wash bay, maintenance department offices, training rooms, and driver lounges. Barr-Nunn now had 225 semi-tractor trailers and $30 million in sales. -
Barr-Nunn continues to expand
Barr-Nunn continues to expand as sales are up to $77 million, and operates more than 570 semi tractors and 1400 semi trailers. There are 710 employees, 580 drivers, and 130 employees in the main office and maintenance facility in Granger, IA. -
Corporate Office Built
Sturgeon breaks ground as a new corporate office is built in Granger, IA. -
Begins working with Smartway
The Smartway Program, which is entirely voluntary, signifies a partnership among government, business and consumers to protect our environment, reduce fuel consumption, and improve our air quality for future generations. -
Charlotte Terminal Opened
A terminal in Charlotte, NC opens to function as an orientation site, drivers lounge, and an additional maintenance facility with Barr-Nunn mechanics. The terminal has 3 drive-through bays, a shop, an office, and approximately 4 acres of fenced and well lit parking for Barr-Nunn's trailers. -
Manchester Terminal Opened
A terminal opened in Manchester, Pennsylvania to provide driver training areas, driver lounges, showers, and maintenance facilities. This terminal has 2 drive-through bays, a shop, an office and abundant parking for Barr-Nunn's trailers. -
Columbus Terminal Opened
A terminal in Columbus, OH opened to serve as an orientation facility including driver training areas and a drivers lounge. -
