Barack Obama announced his candidacy for the presidency of the United States, at Springfield, Illinois
In his nomination speech he said "It was here in Springfield, where North, South, East, and West come together that i was reminded of the essential decent of the Amerian people- where i came to believe that through this decent, we can build a more hopeful America" -

Secret Service
Barack Obama recieved so much hate mail, that grew at such an alarming rate that the Secretary of Homeland Security said that the United States Secret SErvice woud be providing protection for Obama during his campaign in order to ensure his saftey, this was the first time Secret Service had been granted to a candidate this early in a campaign. -
Rally in Conway, South Carolina
Obama speaks at a rally in Conway, South Carolina and creates great controversy early in his campaign by saying that the U.S. must be willing to "strike Al Qaeda inside of Pakistan, with or without the consent of the Pakistani government" many did not agree with his ideas and thus began great controversy over the candidate. -
Winning the delegates
Obama wins Louisiana, Nebraska, Washington State, District of Columbia, Maryland, Virginia, Wisconsin, Hawaii. Putting his ahead in the running against Clinton, and beginning to get people to really see that he was a front runner of the democratic nomination. -
Superdelegates
Super delegates begin to endorse Obama in much larger numbers, Obama secures enough delegates to become the nominee of the democratic party, making him the first African American to be a major party nominee. -
Surpassing Estimations!
Obama is estimated to surpass the number of delegates needed to be the democratic nominee (2,118) thus, Hilary Clinton ends her candidacy therefore making Obama the main runner for the nomination. -
Joe Biden
Obama chooses Joe Biden as his runnnig mate, and vice president. has his first rally with Biden back in front of the old state capital in Springfield, Illinois. -
Nominations
The democratic party nominates Barack Obama to run for the President of the United States as the democratic candidate. -
WINNER
Barack Obama wins the presidential election becoming the 44th president of the United States and therefore becoming the first ever African American president of the United States. -

Obama is named "Person of the Year" by Time Magazine -

Obama is sworn in as the 44th President of the United States of America.
