Blum and Basil were not agreeing on things when it came to the company so Blum left the company. Massine also left soon after that due to Basil's big headedness. This created tension between Blum and Basil and the Ballet Wars began. The two fought over representation and who could keep the company, dancers, etc.

Due to the start of WWll, most dancers could not perform because they did not have the right paper work to leave the country. Sol Hurok decided to make it his responsibility to make sure the dancers had the proper legal papers.

1938 in London the companies were prepared to debut. Massine created three huge ballets due to him not being able to use his choreography. Basil couldnt find a choreographer as good as Massine. he then hired David Lichine. The conflict was that both companies performed just blocks away from each other but this entertained the public eye. Both companies began to tour again. Sol Hurok chose Massine's Ballet Russe De Monte Carlo. Basil went to Australia. The companies came back to London in 1939

After a while the Ballet Russes got back to work due to poor living conditions. Hurok had abandoned the company and the dancers wanted to branch out and look for better opportunities. Basil and Hurok separated due to Hurok stating that Basil was hard to work with. They eventually reconnected but ended up leaving again forcing Basil to find new dancers who werent as experienced as the ones from before. The company was left in the worst shape of all time. The company ended in 1948
