a week after his arrival Cortes took Moctezuma hostage in the palace moctezuma had provided for him. Cortes knocked down the Aztec idols and put up catholic saint. The Aztecs felt ashamed that he had let the Sapnish come in there land and knock down everything, they deserted them leaving him hostage

Cortes remained in in tenochtitlan, velazquez the spanish governor wanted to send coetes back for disobeying him. the spanish governors men had reached cortes so he had o leave for a little bit,he left one of his men in charge.Aztec begin preperation for there religous festival. The in charge man and his group came and massacred the Aztecs,they grabbed there own arms and fought back

The spanish retreat after aztec arms

Aztec fought so ferociously that the Spanish had to retreat to cortes's palace away from the center of the city any chance of peaceful agreement between Spanish and Aztecs were gone

Moctezuma dies

Cotes ordered Moctezuma to speak to his people to persude them to let the spanish return in peace but Moctezuma was majrly hurt by stomes being throne at him. he died a few days later

the Spanish try to escape from tenochtitlan but are stopped by the aztecs-later known as Noche triste

spanish tried to escape in the middle of the night but the Aztecs attacked. They had attacked from all sides. Many of the Spanish were carrying gold and could not move quicly because of the added weight,so many were killed. The Spanish later reffered to thus battle as the Noche triste

The Aztecs Begin to die from smallpox

The Aztecs began dying from smallpox that had been brought by the Spanish. The disease had exsited in Europe for many years and they had devolped an immunity. The Aztecs were new to this disease and did not build an immune to it. Soon enough a lot of the Aztecs had died

The Spanish form a second attack on the now weakened Aztecs

Some members of the Aztecs had turned agianst there own people and fought them. Any way the Aztecs had to allies to support them in this battle and half of them had died due to the smallpox and fighting off the spanish became alot more diffucult!

The last group of the Aztecs surrender

All of the Aztecs had died either from the the disease or from lack of food and water that cortes would not allow in the city. The last group of the Aztecs had surrendered. The Aztec Huey tlatoani was taken as a prisoner and hung. The Great Aztecs Empire was no more

Cortes become governor and captain-general of New Spain

Cortes had burned down all of tenchtitlan just to make sure that nobody was hiding. Less than 3 years after he arrived, Cortes became governor and captain-general of new spain.
