SO WHAT: They were willing to fight for their independence as they thought this was the only way they could improve their govt. -

WHY: Mexico considered Texas as part of their territory but the U.S wanted more land and both sides were willing to fight for it.

WHAT:the U.S paid $10million for 30,000 square miles running down the Gila River, extends east to El Paso and west to California.

WHY:To secure the land to fulfill railroad expansion in the west and to fix their border issue.
SO WHAT:As the final boundary adjustment it resolved the Mexican American border issue.
