  • 1300

    The beginning of the Aztec civilization

    This is when they came together and left on their journey to their homeland in Mexico Valley.
  • 1325

    Tenochtitlán was built

    The capital of the Aztec empire (Tenochtitlán) was built on an island in Lake Texcoco in 1325.
  • 1428

    The Triple Alliance was formed

    The Aztecs formed the Triple Alliance joining the three cities of Texcoco, Tlacopán, and Tenochtitlán and were able to then start building their empire.
  • 1440

    Montezuma I took the throne

    Montezuma I, the greatest Aztec leader, took the throne. This is when the greatest geographical expansion occurred.
  • 1519

    The Spanish arrived in the Valley of Mexico

    Herman Cortés led his massive army of conquistadors into the Valley of Mexico.
  • Nov 8, 1519

    Tenochtitlán was attacked

    Cortés and his army reached the city of Tenochtitlán and decided to attack them. Montezuma II was taken a hostage and the city fell.
  • Aug 13, 1521

    End of the Aztec empire

    Cortés again attacked Tenochtitlán and took control from Cuauhtemoc, Montezuma II's nephew. This battle ended the Aztec empire
