    Treaty of Versaillies
    1918 Germany surrenders to Allies after losing World War 1, and are forced to sign unfavorable Treaty of Versaillies. The Germans lost land, military, and had to pay back money to winners because of the Treaty.
  • 1923 Hyperinflation

    1923 Hyperinflation
    Prices got higher in a short time. So people used money for other things.
  • Beerhall Putsch

    Beerhall Putsch
    In October 1923 Beerhall Putsch: Hitler attempts to overthrow the German goverment.

    Hitler on Trial
    Uses trial to give speeh further blaming Jews for problems of Germany. Only spent 9 months in "jail"....writes Mein Kampf and becomes even MORE beloved.

    1924-1933 had a republic style of goverment. The President was a popular war hero named Hindenburg, but his health began to fail him in the early 1930's.

    Anne Frank, a young girl that died in the holocaust is born.

    Hitler blames Communists for fire. People think nowdays he had people do it.

    Basically gives power of decision making to Hitler. Within a few months, all other political parties besides the Nazis were eliminated. This allowed Hitler to get rid of all his rivals. At this time, we see an official boycott of Jewish businesses as well.

    The Holocaust was the mass murdering of Jewish people and others that did not support the Nazis or were criminals. Adolf Hitler started this by making other German people think Jews were bad.

    In January 1933, Hitler is named Chancellor. He did this by eliminating political rivals to be head of Nazis, and he was rising popularity of Nazis forces Hindenburg to give him some power.

    Nazis needed a way to identify Jews so they could discriminate them. The Nuremberg Laws defined people with 3 or 4 Jewish Grandparents as "Jewish" and 1 or 2 as "Mixed Blood".

    German Army moves into Austria and Germany annexes Czechoslovakia. To avoid war, other countries let them do it. Hitler was born in Austria. Annexes means take over.

    Nazis begin rounding up millions of Jews and confining them to Ghettos. Largest Ghettos were in cities like Warsaw or Lodz in Poland.

    Anne had to go into hiding because of the fact that she's a Jew. Anne and her family went into hiding with The Van Daans (Peter. Mr, and Mrs), later Mr. Dussel joined the annex. The hide in an area of Mr. Frank's old business.

    Warsaw Ghetto Uprising
    -Residents smuggled weapons in.
    -Uprising lasted for about a month.
    -SS troops arrested and deported residents after the uprising ended.

    After stealing weapons from guards in Treblinka, prisoners tried to escape. Most were killed but a few dozen made it out and survived the war.

    -Nazis evacuate prisoners, march them into Germany to avoid capture.
    -Brutal treatment and harsh conditions along the way.

    Members of the Sonderkommando working in the crematorium fought SS guards killing over 70, but all 250 as well as 200 others were killed with response.
  • End Of War

    End Of War
    Hitler commits suicide rather than face capture by the Soviet Red Army. Germany surrenders within a week. Hitler's suicide happened on April 30th.

    Liberation of Concentration Camps
    At the end of the Holocaust the Jews were set free from the Concentration Camps by the US and other Countries, but they had to find a way to rebuild their lives because they had no money, clothes, houses, or food.

    Mr. Frank Finds Anne's Diary
    When Mr. Frank comes back from the concentration camp he was looking around the old secret annex when he sees a glove and scarf and breaks down crying, therefore causing Miep to come up there. Mr. Frank then says he can't stay here anymore, Miep then said she found some papers and asked Mr. Frank if he would like them, but Mr. Frank said to burn them all. Next Miep pulled out the diary and said,"Even this?". She gave Mr. Frank the book and he looked through then he suddenly stopped at one page.

    The Allies and the International Community put a number of Germans on trial for War Crimes, Crimes Against Peace and Crimes Against Humanity. International Community- People That Were Not Involved. Went from 1946-1947.
  • Survivors

    Survivors
    Survivors were placed in Displaced Person Camps- Areas for former prisoners to stay while searching for family and a permanent place to live. At camps people tried to look for their family but about 90% were already dead.
