Wave Hill Walk Off
The wave hill walk off is known as the day that men walked off their job for human rights. Firstly they expressed their unhappiness from poor and unlovable work conditions. -
The Referendum
The referendum was held on two sections, wanting to change how they seek.
Section 51.Change allowed federal government to make laws for aboriginal people.
Section 127. Have aboriginal people counted in the census. -
Tent Embassy
The aboriginal tent embassy was held in order to support the rights and freedoms for aboriginal peoples. -
Whitlam Governement
Once the wave hill walk off had ended the aborigines gained rights and also land, Prime Minister Gough Whitlam handed over 3300 square kilometres of land to the Gurindji people. For the first time Torres strait and aboriginal culture people gained recognition of their connection with the land. -
Mabo Case
Torres Strait islander people gained access to land through a high court case. Their argument was that they deserve their land back because they were original owners before European settlement. -
Bringing Them Home
Bringing them home is a report that was made in 1997 for the tribute of the kids who will never be brought back to their families. To the many thousands of aboriginal and Torres strait islander who had gone through many strengths and struggles by removal from their families.
