Australia's Involvement in WW1 Timeline

  • World War One began

  • The Gallipoli Campaign

    The Gallipoli Campaign which lasted 8 months began on the 25th of April 1915 and ended in early December 1915. During this campaign Australian troops fought against Germany and the Turks (mostly the Turks) as it was on Turkish ground. During this time 8,000 of the 20,000 Australians where either wounded or died.
  • The Battle of the Somme

    The Battle of the Somme lasted 141 days. It began on July 1st 1916 and ended November 18th 1916. 23,000 Australian men fought in the Battle of the Somme however 6,800 died. When the Australians fought in the Battle of the Somme they fought as allies with the British and French Empire against the German Empire.
  • The Battle of Bullecourt

    The Bullecourt battle consisted of two battles. 1st of which began on the 9th of April. However the first battle failed. The second battle then began on the 11th of April. During both of these battles which went for 38 days combined, Australia lost 10,000 men. During this time Australia had fought with there allies, the British empire against the German Empire.
  • The Battle of Messines

    The Messine's Battle which went for 7 days began on the 7th of June 1917 and ended on the 14th of June 1917. During this time Australia fought against the German Empire who killed 6,000 Australia men.
  • The Battle of Beersheba

    The Beersheba Battle that went for 1 day began on the 31st of October and ended on the 31st of October. During this time Australian troops fought against the Turkish who killed 32 Australian men and 32 others that were wounded.
  • The Battle at Villers Bretonneux

    The battle of Villers Bretonneux consisted of two battles. Of which the first one began on the 4th of April 1918. However this battle was unsuccessful. There was then another battle which began on the 24th of April 1918. During this war Australian troops fought against the German Empire who killed 2,400 men of the 3,900 men that fought in the battle for Australia. The war then ended 3 days later after the second battle had began. Overall the two battles went for 23 days.
