Course of Positive Philosophy
Compte began writing his first works, Course of Positive Philosophy (Cours de Philosophie Positive) which was a series totaling six volumes. These books explained Compte's own structure of sciences using the levels of theoretical and applied knowledge required to study specific sciences. Compte also explained the "law of three stages", which explained the ideas of how society and sciences develop. -
Law of Three Stages
Compte explains the differences between how the world is viewed. The theoretical stage is explained as things that cannot be verified, ex: religion linked to phenomena. The metaphysical stage is the idea that there are abstract forces acting on humans to create specific phenomena, ex: karma. Lastly, the positive stage is the idea that we must rely on sciences, rational thought, and so forth to explain certain human behaviors. -
A General View of Positivism
Compte generalized all the ideas into one book, A General View of Positivism -
