Democritus was an ancient greek philosipher that is known today for discovering the formulation of the atomic theory of the universe. -
John Dalton
The meterologist and physicist John Dalton is one of the very first to develop what they call an atomic model. John Dalton hought that the atom was the smallest possible component of matter. But then his theories were proven wrong by Thomson. -
JJ Thomson
In the year of 1897 Scientist Sir J.J. Thomson showed that the cathode rays are made of a negatively charged particle that was very recent but nobody knew of it. And then at that time he was credited with the foundation and identification of the electron; and, in a stronger term, with the discovery of the first subatomic particle. -
Ernest Rutherford
Ernest Rutherford was a famous nuclear physicist who worked alongside J.J Thompson and soon after Ernest discovered that the atom was not one of the smallest unit of masses. He discovered that atoms consited of a nucleus, also made of protons, neutrons and electrons. On a side note he also discovered that radioactive materials experience decay as time passed by. -
Niels Bohr
Physicist Niels Bohr developed a model of the atom, and he suggested the idea that energy levels of electrons are discrete, and that the electrons revolve in stable rotations around the atomic nucleus, but it can jump from one energy level or rotate to another.
