    Democritus (450BC)

    Democritus (450BC)
Democritus was born in the city of Abdera in Thrace in 450BC. His father died and all the ingeritance money came to him. He thrived for knowage and used that money to get it. He travled country to country learning for all sorts of people. His main interests where Metaphysics, Mathematics and Astronomy. He was often know as "The Mocker" this was because he would laugh at humans Irrational behavior. He was so importent because he was the first person to discover the existnce of atoms.
  • John Dalton(1766)

    John Dalton(1766)
John Dalton was born in 1766 at Eaglesfield. He studyed in Law and Medicine. He went to school at Quaker school and then he moved to Manchester. Dalton became a teacher at New College and he was teaching mathematics and meteorology. But soon the school closed because of finacial problems. He became a private tutor for mathematics. John Dalton's Atomic theorys where Aal matter is made of atoms. Atoms are indivisble and indestrucable. Compounds are formed by a combination of two or more different.

  • J.J. Thomson (1856)

    J.J. Thomson (1856)
Joseph Thomson was born in 1856 in Cheetham Hill. He was educated in private schools where he was brilliant at science. He was enrolled into Owens College at the at of 14. He later moved to Trinity College where he got his BA in mathematics. He became a Professor of Physics at a college. He was such a good teacher he got a Nobel prize in 1906 for his investigations on conduction of electricity by gases. His atomic theory identified electrons in 1897.
  • Ernest Rutherford(1871)

    Ernest Rutherford(1871)
Ernest Rutherford was born in Brightwater in 1871. He studied at Havelock school then Nelson College and won a scholership to go to Canterbury College of New Zealand. He was then invited to come study at England where he was one of the only few to not have degrees in that country. In 1914 he was knighted. His theory was that the atom was mostly empty but he believed that the atom had a central nucleus and the nucleus was surrounded by electrons that were negative and orbited the atom
  • Neils Bohr(1885)

    Neils Bohr(1885)
Neils Bohr was born in Copenhagen in 1885. He was schooled in Gammelholm Latin School. In 1903 he enrolled into the Copenhagen University. He majored in Physics. He got the Nobel prize in physics and many other awards. His theory was the small negatively charged electrons obit a small positively charged nucleus, just the the planets.
  • James Chadwick(1891)

    James Chadwick(1891)
James Chadwick was born in Bollington in 1891. He was send to Bollington Primary and was offered a scholarship to Manchester Grammar School. But his family couldnt afford the small amount that had to be paid so he attended Central Grammer School. He went to Victoria University of Manchester. He won a Nobel Prize for his Theory. He bombarded a thin sheet of berylluim with particle and found out there was another particle neutrons.

  • Aristotle (384BC)

    Aristotle (384BC)
Aristotle was born in 384 BC in Stagira, Chalcidice. At the age of 18 he moved to Athens to and enrolled into Platos Academy. He studyed there for over 20 years. His main interests were Biology, Physics, Metaphysics and Peotry. Aristotle didnt belive that atoms were differant sizes and being in constant motion. He belived that all matter consisted of 4 elements: Earth, Air, Water and Fire. They also had 3 qualities: Dryness, Hotness, Coldness and Moistness.
