    Germany invades Poland
    On september 1, 1939, Germany began to invade Poland. Poland was bombarded from land and air by Germany. After being bombed, weakened Poland was then invaded by land with tanks, troops, and artillery. Once everything was through the infantry swept in. Once Poland was under Nazi control "security" forces were put in place. Althogh Poland had an army they were under-equiped and charged head on. Poland was taken by force and with small resistance.
  • Fall of Paris

    Fall of Paris
    The evening of june 14, 1940, Germany enter Paris with plans to invade and conquer. Parisians fled fearing the Nazis. The French government was going to sue for peace, but was convinced otherwise. The United States was said to help aid in a battle between Germany and Paris. The Untited States would not aid; making peace a choice unable to be chosen. When the tanks rolled in the Gestapo started arresting and interrogating the Parisians. Paris's capital had fallen to the Nazis.

    June 22, 1941, hitler launched his armies eastward in an invasion of the Soviet Union. Three great armies, 150 divisions, and three thousand tanks rumbled into Soviet territory. Germany entered with the intention to conquer, eenslave, and exterminate. Soviet counterattacks stalled Germanys advance. The elements of the weather were on the soviets side after Germany continued to advance. The cold weather helped the Soviet Union force Germany to retreat.

    Pearl Harbor
    The morning of december 7, 1941, the American naval base was attacked by hundred of Japanese fighter planes. The attack lasted only two hours, eight enormous battle ships and 300 or more planes were all destroyed. The suprise attack killed more than 2,000 sailors and soldiers, another 1,000 were wounded. The day after the devastating ttack on Pearl Harbor, war was declared on Japan. After two years of watching from the sidelines Ameica joined World War II.

    Wannsee Conference
    On january 20, 1942, Nazi officials meet to work out details for the "final soultion" of the "jewish question". The questions to be answered were, how much and whats was needed. Reinhard Heydrich and Heinrich Himmler's number two man were two submit the answers. Many different cruel subjects were thought of to solve the "problem". Thoughts of deporting them or working them to death were discussed. Strong ones who would survive would be "taken care of". Their cruel ideas never completely worked.

    Battle of Midway
    June 4, 1942, six months after Pearl Harbor the Battle of Midway took place. The naval battle against Japan was one of the most decisive battles of World War II. The U.S. was able to crack Japanese codes to counter Japan's planned ambush of its few remaining aircraft carriers, causing permanent dammage to the Japanese navy. Japan planned to attack close to Pearl Harbor, but the plan fell through when American battleships countered the attack. The U.S claimed the victory.
  • Warsaw Ghetto Uprising

    Warsaw Ghetto Uprising
    April 19, 1943, residents of the Jewish ghetto of nazi occupied Warsaw, Poland. Jewish residents staged and armed revolt against deportations to concentration camps. The residents greatly outnumbered in weapon and man power, saved the ghetto from liquidation for nearly a month. Block by block bunkers and building were destroyed. As an act of power the nazis blew up Wasrsaws Great Synagogue. About 7,000 jews lost their lives while the remaining 50,000 were sent to extermination camps.
  • Operation Gomorrah

    Operation Gomorrah
    July 24, 1943, Hamburg, Germany was raided by British bombers at night and bombed by America in the day. Britans bombing resembled revenge, after 167 civilians were killed by German bombings. Tactics to confuse the Germans were used to divert their attention from the actual aircraft. With the help of Britan America started bobming northern Germany. The bombing attacks lasted until November of 1943, although they lost their intensity.

    D-Day
    June 6, 1944, more than 160,000 Allied troops land on a 50 mile strech of Normand,France coastline. More than 5,000 ships and 13,000 aircraft supported the invasion of D-Day. More than 100,000 soldiers gained foot-hold thanks to the 9,000 soldiers who endured death and wounds. The soldiers began to slowly but surley move across Europe. Their goal: to deafeat Adolf Hitlers crack troops.

    Battle of Okinawa
    April 1, 1945, 287,000 U.S. soldiers battled 130,000 Japanese soldiers. The battle was the last and biggest of pacific island battles and of World War II. The stakes of the battle were vital airbases. At the end of the 82-day campaign Japan lost 77,000 soldiers. In the end the U.S. had 65,000 casualties including 14,000 deaths.
