    My mother was reading Cat in the Hat to me before I started school.
    All photos are from pexels. A royalty free stock images & copyright free pictures. One of the few books we owned as a child was The Cat in the Hat by Dr. Seuss. I fell in love with the illustrations, rhymes, and humor. I couldn't read it myself so my mother had to read it to me, but that didn't stop me from enjoying every page. I looked through that book so often that I wore all the pages and the cover broke off.

    I was in my first grade class and it was the first time we could rent books from the school library. During our library class we learned about a funny maid named Amelia Bedelia, and she always took everything literally then messed things up. I think I read every book in the series that year.

    When I was in second grade we started learning everything about dinosaurs in the school library. I found myself doing all types of research on the Triceratops. I couldn't read enough books with them in it.

    back in 1988 my family would get the newspaper. I would get up first thing in the morning and check out the sports section to read about the summer olympics in seoul. It is the only way I can find out what happened because many events were going on when I was sleeping.

    The show X-Men the Animated Series just premiered and could not learn enough about Wolverine.
    The 7-Eleven convenience store down the street from my house sold a comic book called Marvel Comics presents Wolverine, and Issue #85 was the first comic. After that I was hooked to comic books.

    By the time I was in 8th grade I was hardcore into everything comics. For a group of us that was all we would talk about. We talked to one of the local comic book store owners in the area, and they agreed to start a club at our school so more kids will buy comics. Our club made it into the school yearbook. Everyday about 30 kids would sit around during lunch time reading comic books.

    I was taking a world history class in high school and was not doing too well. The teacher provided extra credit during winter break If we read one of two books. I ended up reading the book The First Man in Rome by Colleen McCullough that was 1150 pages long. I've never read anything even close to that length, but I was desperate to pass and I did it. That was my first experience reading larger books.

    As I was approaching my senior year in high school I was really into Dungeons & Dragons role play books. My favorite series at that time was Dragon-lance Chronicles. Anything that involved wizards and swordsmen I wanted to read.
  • The Wheel of Time

    The Wheel of Time
    When I first started college I was craving something epic to read. That's when I found the Wheel of Time series by Robert Jordan. Each of the 14 books were 1,000 plus pages long. Sadly at book 11 the author died and another writer had to finish. I stayed persistent and finished all 14 books by 2013. They just made the book into a TV series on Amazon Prime and season 2 should be out soon.

    At this point in my life I had thousands of comic books. However, sadly I had no one to share my hobby with. Then in 2009 I went to my first San Diego Comic-Con. That's where I started meeting nerds that read comics as much as me. I've been about twelve times now and look forward to it every year. I enjoy dressing up in Cosplay and hearing the latest comic book news. I think I'll always be a comic book reader because it will always remind me of my childhood.
