Assignment 3: Reading History Timeline

  • Limu the Blue Turtle

    Limu the Blue Turtle
This was the first book I remember my mom reading to me. I loved when she would change the voices for each character.
  • The Little Soul and the Sun

The Little Soul and the Sun
This is the next book I remember my mom reading to me. The language was much more advanced, but the beautiful images kept me engaged
  • Magic Tree House

    Magic Tree House
When I got into the third grade, we were required to start reading books for AR and Star testing. I didn't want to do it but my mom found these books that she thought would keep me engaged because of the fantastical adventures. I couldn't get enough of them at that age
  • Avalon: Web of Magic

    Avalon: Web of Magic
In the fifth grade, I tested out of my prior reading level and was no longer allowed to receive points for magic tree house. My mom then found me this series, which was more fantasy adventure. The kids in the book were older and the dialogue got more advanced. Some of the scenes were scarier than I was used to for my age. I read the entire released series that year.
  • Beautiful Creatures

    Beautiful Creatures
This was the first YA series I ever read. It was also fantasy adventure, however there was now the addition of romance. This is my favorite genre to this day.
  • The Prophet

    The Prophet
For one of my birthdays, my mom gifted me a copy of her favorite book. It was written in prose and the first book I had ever read like it. It opened me up to poetry, and there are many life lessons I carry with me from that book.
  • Mortal Instruments: City of Bones

    Mortal Instruments: City of Bones
I was in my summer going into eighth grade when my mom bought me this book series. She got me the four books in the series that were out at the time and told me to ration it until the end of summer because the books were getting expensive. I lied to her and told her I was rationing, until she found out I was staying up late and finished all four in two weeks. I got grounded. She got me a library card. This is still my favorite YA series.
  • A Tale of Two Cities

    A Tale of Two Cities
When I was in the ninth grade, I attempted to read this book. I thought it would make me feel sophisticated. I did not understand one word of what I read and I would not be able to tell you what this book was about. It was not my cup of tea.
  • Animal Farm

    Animal Farm
I read this my sophomore year of high school. It was the first time I really understood a book that I was assigned to read. I have a hard time reading books that aren't my usual genre. It made me feel good that I was finally able to grasp an assigned reading, especially one that was such a complex metaphor.
  • Throne of Glass

    Throne of Glass
I went into a reading slump for years, but this book got me out of it. It was the first Adult Fantasy book I'd ever read, and it is now the only genre I read. The world building and character development in this series was the best I'd ever read. I had never felt that emotionally connected to a character before and the series really moved me. The series is my favorite of all time.
