    Japanese Invasion of China
    BritannicaAlso known as the Second Sino-Japanese war, this is when Japan aimed to gain total control of China, and China was not prepared for war. They resisted the expansion of Japanese territory in China. This led to a stalemate which impacted the location of Japanes soldiers. They were diverted to southeast Asia into the Pacific Theatre of WWll eventually resulting in their defeat.

    History-BlitzkreigGerman Blitzkreig was a form of fast paced war in an effort to create disorganization among enemy troops. Also called "lightning warfare" because of quick succesful execution resulted in short war campaigns. This means lives were saved and less artillery ended up being used. German general Rommell used this tactic in Africa and it was eventually adopted by US general George Paton. This effected economies because they were only focused on military needs.

Hitler claimed that this invasion was an act of defense but he wasnt convincing. Due to this massive attack Britain and France declared war on Germany starting World War II

    B.o.BThe Battle of Britain was a turning point in the war. The momentum was changed after Germany lost this battle. Germany wanted to invade Britian but they needed to destroy their airforce first. This was a dogfight in the sky between Germany and Britain. GB had new technology which allowed them to know when and where the Luftwaffe were coming. This battle was also slower paced which hurt Blitzkreig.

    BarbarossaGermany invades the Soviet Union even though they had a pact with them. This was a problem for Germany because they were now fighting a two front war causing a limit of supplies. Hitler invaded the USSr because of a hatred of communism and the restore Germanic territory. The Germany were going to win but the length of the battle and the cold in Salingrad changing the outcome.

The attack was devestating but it woke the United States up. Roosevelt declared war on Japan which also went against the plan to get America to lift economic sanctions. The United States

    History-BDAAfter the Pearl Harbor bombing in 1941, Japan invaded the Phillipines. The US-Fillipino armies retreated to the Battan Peninsula and held out even though they lacked support from other military areas. Eventually a US general surrenderd his 75,000 troops. The surrendered soldiers were rounded up by the Japanese army and were forced to march to POW camps over 65 miles away. Thousands of troops met their deaths due to harsh conditions and treatment. This fueled the US to win the Pacific war.

    StalingradThis was a turning point in the war as well as one of the biggest and deadliest battle in the war. It was a turning point because Germany lost so many of their soldiers that they werent ever able to fully recover. Stalingrad is one of the coldest parts of the USSR and the Germans werent properly attired for the cold which was a major downfall on their part. The Soviet Union surrounded the Germans causing them to have to wait it out in the cold, they lost 86,000 soldiers in this single battle.

    WarsawMany Jewish people in the ghettos tried to organize resistance agianst the Nazis. They smuggled and made homemade weapons. The most famous uprising is in Warsaw. While 30,000 Jews were deported a group created the ZOB a Jewish fighting organization. After a month of fighting the Germans blew up the Synagaouge ending the uprising and destrioying the Ghetto. Only 7,000 Jews ended up being deported.

    operation gomorrahAfter getting bombed by Germany and losing 167 citizens, the British got their revenge with the help of the US air force. They dropped 2,300 tons of bombs on the German city Hamburg this one night, killing over 1500 civillians. The bombings lasted until november totaling in over 30,000 civilian casualities. This impacted Hitler because he would not visit the destroyed cities in fear of the reality of defeat.

By late August all of northern France had been liberated, and by the following spring the Allies had defeated the Germans. These landings in Normandy are known as the beginning of the end of WWll in Europe

They were succesful because the Americans were ill prepared. The Americansheld out and and small groups of troops fought many small battles. After reinforcments came the Allies won the battle keeping Germany from overruning Europs.

    Concentration CampsAuschwitz, the largest killing center and concentration camp, was liberated by the Soviets in January 1945. The Nazis had forced the majority of Auschwitz prisoners to march "death marches" and Soviet soldiers found only several thousand emaciated prisoners alive when they entered the camp. There was large amounts of evidence that mass murder was committed. The allied forces also liberated an abundance of the camps. They came upon unspeakable conditions and could finally expose the horrors.

    Iwo JimaThis was the first major battle of WWll fought on Japanese homeland fought against the US. The location of the island, Iwo Jima, helped out the US because fighter planes could land and take off here. The Japanese had built tunnels and hiding places all over the island and after hundreds of thousand US marines landed they had a surprice attack. After 36 brutal days in battle the US finally secured the island. A memorial is located in DC of the marines raising the flag after their victory.

The US and Japanese were fighting for air bases vital to Japan. in this battle the Japanes changed tactics, they used Kamikaze pilots, or suicide warfare. This battle was a bloodbath with over 150,000 casualties between the two sides. This was the most difficult Pacific battle the Allies faced, even though they won the battle, due to the highly populated area and the new Japanese tactics.

    VE DayThis day was the official end of WWll in Europe. The surrender was signed May 7, but on May 8 it was officialy announced to Europen nations. Celebrations broke out in the street and didnt end until midnight due to thunderstorms. Celebrations were not hold on May 9 because the war was still goin on in Japan but for this day the Europeans could finally be relieved.

    Atomic BombsOn this day the US became the first country to use atomic weapons in a war. The first bomb was dropped on the city Hiroshima in Japan. This event ended WWll, but it is believed to may have initiated the cold war. Three days later we dropped another atomic bomb on the city of Nagasaki. These caused a speedy end to the war. Japan lost so many civilian lives due to the bombs and radiation poisoning, atleast 120,000 citizens. They signed the Japanese Instrument of Surrender to end the war.

The Allies had superior technology creating huge amount of casualties while they suffered very little comparatively. US citizens celebrated this day, Harry S Truman said, "We have been waiting for this day since Pearl Harbor."

    History-NTThese trails were held in held to bring Nazi war criminals to justice, the Nuremberg trials were a series of 13 trials carried out in Germany, over a period of four years. The defendants, who included Nazi Party officials and high-ranking military officers, were charged on crimes against peace and crimes against humanity. Only half were found guilty and sent to death. Hitler was not in these because he already committed suicide. These impacted the establishment of permanent international courts.
