    Prior to this date children with developmental disabilities were often times not allowed access to an education. After the hearing the courts decreed that all children regardless of disability would be provided access to an education. This and similar cases were brought to the supreme court.   • Board of Education of the Hendrick Hudson Central School District v. Rowley

    Amy Rowley was a deaf student in a public school in Peekskill, New York. Amy's parent setup a meeting prior to beginning school and and IEP was to be setup which required a sign language interpreter. As time went on Amy wasn't learning as fast or as much as she could. Parents started law suit proceedings. 1982 court ruled free appropriate education is required to all.

  • HHonig v. Doe

    Tow emotionally disturbed children were suspended for violent behavor. Court ruled that this violated "education for all handycaped children.
