Artificial Intelligence

  • 3 Laws Of Robotics

    1. A robot may not injure a human being or, through inaction, allow a human being to come to harm.
    2. A robot must obey the orders given to it by human beings, except where such orders would conflict with the First Law.
    3. A robot must protect its own existence as long as such protection does not conflict with the First or Second Laws.
  • First Programming Language

During the 1950s, the first three programming languages were designed:
    * FORTRAN (1955), the "FORmula TRANslator", by John Backus.
    * LISP (1958), the "LISt Processor", by John McCarthy
    * COBOL,(1959) the COmmon Business Oriented Language, Short Range Committee
  • AI Term First Used

The term AI was first used by John McCarthy an American computer scientist in the year 1956. John defines AI as "the science and engineering of making intelligent machines."
  • First Industrial Robot

The first industrial robot was located at General Motors automobile factory in New Jersey. It performed spot welding and extracted die castings.
  • SRI Robot

The Artificial Intelligence Center at the Stanford Research Institute International created a mobile robot system nicknamed 'Shakey'. Shakey was created for problem solving.
  • Expert Systems

An expert system is a computer system that imitates the decision-making ability of a human expert. The first expert systems were created in the 1970s and were among the first truly successful forms of AI software.
  • PROLOG

Prolog is a general purpose logic programming language related to artificial intelligence. The language was created by Alain Colmerauer and the first Prolog system was developed in 1972 by Colmerauer with Philippe Roussel.
  • Robot Eye

The Robot Eye was introduced in the year 1990. The human eye can rotate at 500 degrees per second but now a new robot eye is able exceed that ability by moving 2,500 degrees per second.
  • First RoboCup Soccer

RoboCup is a robotics competition which was founded in 1997. The purpose was to develop autonomous soccer robots with the intention of promoting research and education in the field of artificial intelligence.
  • Interactive Robot Pets

The First Interactive Pet was created in the year 2000. The manufacturing company was Sony, they named it AIBO, standing up for Artificial Intelligence roBOt.
