    Physics

    Physics
-Happens to come from an Ancient Greek word, “phusikḗ” meaning, knowledge of nature.
-Understanding of how the universe works.
-Physics branches off of mathematics, which Archimedes was mostly known for.
-Study of matter and energy and the relationships between them.
-Since math and science go hand in hand, without Archimedes’ geometrical concepts, chances are, the concept of physics wouldn’t be around as early as it was.

    Space

    Space
    -Astronomical physics,=theory and experiment
-Theory/experiments use mathematical models to find answers to questions
-Fundamental quality in physics=it can’t be defined by other quantities because nothing is more fundamental as the present
-Fundamental quality=set of units for physical quantities
-There is a never ending discovery of space, new discoveries are always happening
-Geographical space identifies/describes Earth & why things exist in places, and utilizing spacial awareness
  • The Cold War/Space Race

    The Cold War/Space Race
    -1947- December 26, 1991; Soviets/USA
-USSR & United States=allies for WWII
    - Political/cultural war with Communists/Capitalists
-America feared Communists attacking/becoming powerful, vice versa
-Space Race, during Cold War 1955-1972
-USSR put Sputnik in space, US- no one knew what it did
    -Atomic bombs=everybody in fear
-Space Race= competition with USA and Soviet Union in space exploration
    - Discover more space; sending humans up was primary
  • NASA and SSP

    NASA and SSP
-NASA was the US's space program
-SSP was the Soviet Union's space program
-These programs were invented because both nations wanted to discover more about space and to compete against eachother
-1972, NASA sent multiple satellites into space called Landsat to take pictures of Earth
-SSP bulit and sent their own space shuttes into space
  • Yuri Gagarin

    Yuri Gagarin
-Russian Soviet pilot/cosmonaut; first to journey outer space
    - The spacecraft, Vostok, orbited Earth on April 12, 1961- It took 89 minutes to complete the orbit
    -Born: March 9, 1934 died: March 27, 1968
-Awarded “Hero of the Soviet Union” which is the nation’s highest honour
-Died in MiG -15, a training jet he piloted crashed
-Family suffered Nazi occupation in World War II because he lived in Klushino, occupied in November 1941
    -Graduated technical school-1955
  • Archimedes

    Archimedes
    -Born:287 BC died:212 BC n Syracuse, Italy. 75 years
-Died in thr Second Punic War, he died because, he was carrying mathematical instruments, and a solider killed him thinking that his materials were valuable.
    -Father, Phidias=Astronomer.
    -Leading scientists in classical antiquity.
-Geometrical concepts such as, area of a circle, surface area and volume of a sphere, area under a parabola
-During war, he reflected the sun off mirrors to the enemy ships so that they would burn down
