  • The Creation of Israel

British announced that it was giving up control of the mandate and turning the matter over to the United Nations. The UN proposed to partition Palestine into a Jewish state and Arab state with Jerusalem under control. Jewish leaders accepted, but Arab leaders didn't. The day Israel declared its independence armies from the Arab countries of Egypt, Syria, Lebanon, Transjordan, and Iraq invaded Israel launching the Arab-Israeli war.
  • Conflicts with Israel

A regional issue that has been a conflict in the Middle East involves Israel, as most Middle Eastern countries do not accept to see Israel as a state and its right to exist. Many times, neighboring countries have invaded Israel and formed military groups that conduct raids and terrorist attacks. But little did neighboring countries know that within each raid Israel expands to more territory, and as a result many Palestinian Arabs live under Israeli control.
  • War in 1967 and 1973

In 1967 Egypt decided to close off the Gulf of Aqaba, Israels route to the Red Sea. Eventually Israel attacked Egypt's army by deploying air strikes, also attacking Syria and Jordan. Israel then moved its ground troops to attack Arab forces as well, and this war was called the Six-Day War. In 1973 Egypt and Syria launched a surprise attack on Israel with determining to win their territory back, and this was called the Yom Kippur War. The U.S. helped Israeli forces push back the Arab forces.
  • A Peace Agreement

After weeks of fighting, both sides agreed to a cease-fire. Until the late 1970's no Arab nation had recognized Israel's right to exist, in 1977 the Egyptian President Anwar Sadat wanted to make peace with Israel. U.S. President Jimmy Carter wanted to help facilitate this important historic peace, so he united Sadat and prime minister Menachem Begin to Camp David in the U.S. Sadat and Begin reached an agreement known as the Camp David Accords which states the peace between the two states.
