  • The French and Indian War

    The French and Indian War
    The French and Indian War began in 1754 and ended with the Treaty of Paris of 1763. This was against Britain and the French. They were fighting over land and who could have it. There were Native Americans fighting on both sides hoping to gain weapons and land. When the war ended the French had no territory in the Americas. It wen to the British and the Spanish.
  • The Proclamiation 1763

    The Proclamiation 1763
    After the French and Indian War, King George III made this proclamiation. That states that nobody can settle West of the Appalachian Mountains. This made the colonists upset because they fought for that land and they couldn't use it.
  • Sugar Act

    Sugar Act
    It was a law passed on foreign refined sugar and molasses. This was to get the colonies to buy the sugar from the British. Which would help them to get more money of the market.
  • Townshend Act

    Townshend Act
    The Townshend Acts were a series of laws passed by the British Parliament. They placed new taxes and took away more freedom. They taxed paper, paint, lead, glass, and tea.
  • The Boston Massacre

    The Boston Massacre
    The Boston Massacre was a street fight between the patriots and the British soldiers. The patriots were throwing sticks, stones, and snowballs. The soldiers opened fired killing 5 of the colonists. This enraged the colonists and they made it seem like a bigger deal then what it was. 6 of the soldiers were acquitted and 2 of them convicted of manslaughter.
  • The Boston Tea Party

    The Boston Tea Party
    A raid on 3 of the British ships in the Boston Harbor. In which the Sons of Liberty disguised themselves as Indians and threw all the tea over board the ship. They did this as protest against the tax on tea.
  • Intolerable Acts

    Intolerable Acts
    The Intolerable Acts were laws passed after the Boston Tea Party. These laws were meant to punish Massachusetts. The British didn't like how the colonists were rebelling against the taxes set on the colonial goods.
  • Boston Blockade

    Boston Blockade
    The Boston Blockade was part of the Intolerable Acts. This was to punish Boston for the Boston tea party. They closed the port of Boston. They also demanded they paid them back for dumping all the tea in the harbor.
  • Continental Congress

    Continental Congress
    The Continental Congress is a convention of delegates. The delegates are people that are high up in the colonies. These people want the colonies to be free from British hands. The reason for this congress was a compact to boycott British goods.
  • The Declaration of Independence

    The Declaration of Independence
    The Declaration of Independence explains why the colonists should be free from the British. It says the people have rights that can't be taken away. This doucment lists the complaints they have against the King, and argues that they have to be free to protect their rights. All the delegates signed in at the bottom of the page.
