    Thesis for the timeline

    Although throughout history Europe had a great theme of expansion, in 1400-1750 the expansion of became even bigger due to the slave trade from Africa. This socially and economically changed Europe as well as Africa.
  • Feb 15, 1441

    First Slaves taken to Portugal

    In 1441, slaves were taken to Portugal from Africa. This shows change because slaves had not been taken directly from Africa to Portugal. This changed the way that trade of slaves happened and made slaves the most common item traded.
  • Feb 15, 1482

    El Mina

    In 1482 the most important factory in Portugal, EL Mina, was establsihed. This factory showed continuity, because it showed thateurope was still expanding. But it also showed change, because it changed how goods were produced.
  • Feb 15, 1484

    Missionaries in Kongo

    The Portuguese sent missionaries to Kongo to Westernize it. They were able to gain their trust and treated them fairly for some time, but then they began enslaving the people of Kongo. This shows continuity because it shows how the people of portugese continued to enslave the African people.

    Benin Slave Trade

    The ruler of Benin limited the amount of slave trading that could be done and instead mad them trade other goods. This shows change because it shows the change in the amount of slaves being traded and the items being traded.

    English in the Slave

    The English began to start being part of the slave trade. This represents change because it is the 1st time that the English are taking part and this is creating more trade.
  • Feb 15, 1570

    Launda

    Launda was estblished in Kongo by the Portuguese. This showed Continuity because it showed how Portugal continued to expand.
  • Invasion of Western Savanah

    Morocco invaded the Western Savanah and stole power from the Songhay Empire. This shows change because there was a change in control of the Western Savanah.
  • El Mina is captured

    The Dutch took El Mina which was a major trading port because they wanted control of the slave trade. This is an example of change because the Dutch were now in the Slave trade
  • East India Company at Good Hope Cape

    The Dutch East India Company made a stop for ships on there way to India at Good Hope Cape. The had many crops farmed by African slaves. This showed change because It changed the trips for their ships to India
  • Osei Tutu Comes to Power

    Osei Tutu cam to power and expanded his clan, the Oyoko clan. He helped africans to come together to make a strong government and military. This is a change because it shows how Africans were changing their ways to become stronger.
